The Beloved Community Hosts Successful Inaugural Easter Feaster Event in Binghamton
March 31, 2024
Binghamton, NY — The Beloved Community (TBC), a nonprofit based in Binghamton, celebrated a heartwarming success with its inaugural Easter Feaster event. Held at the home of Kenneth and Maddie Brown on Chapin Street, the event brought together volunteers and community members for a day of giving and fellowship.
During the event, TBC served 166 meals on-site and delivered an additional 70 meals, bringing the total to 236 meals shared with the community. The event was a testament to the power of community collaboration and the spirit of giving.
Local news networks WBNG and Fox40 WICZ covered the event, showcasing our volunteers and impact on their evening news broadcasts.
TBC’s mission is to support community leaders in implementing projects that improve their neighborhoods. Kenny Brown proposed the Easter Feaster project last year, working closely with our Steering Committee to plan logistics, fundraise, and prepare the food.
In the months leading up to the event, Steering Committee members secured a food permit from the Broome County Health Department, reached out to local groceries and businesses for donations, and promoted the event through social media and physical flyers in high-need areas. We are grateful for the support from the Unitarian Universalist Church, Greater Good Grocery, WBNG News, Fox40 News, Binghamton CHOW, and Weis for their generous contributions.
On the eve of Easter, March 30, volunteers gathered at the Binghamton Unitarian Universalist Church, which generously offered its kitchen for food preparation. Under the guidance of Chef Kenny, volunteers prepared ham, carrots, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and dietary substitutes to ensure everyone could enjoy the meal.
The next day, TBC volunteers served the Easter meal, interacting with community members and sharing the mission of our organization. The serving line featured head chef and event organizer Kenny Brown, along with Maddie Eck, Caleb Larnerd, Brielle Procko, Terry Lackovic, Colin-Pierre, Jory-Pierre, and Karen Larnerd.
At the end of the day, we organized meal deliveries for neighbors who couldn’t attend the event. Volunteers boxed up the remaining food and delivered meals to those who had pre-signed up, ensuring everyone felt the warmth and support of the community during the holiday.
